It’s bedtime for Felicia. That means Mama Linda and Mama Nessa will be reading her a story. Tonight, though, Felicia doesn’t want to be read a book; instead she wants to hear Mama Linda tell the story of how she was adopted.
Felicia’s Favorite Story, written by Lesléa Newman and illustrated by Adriana Romo, tells the tale of Felicia’s adoption from the Central American country Guatemala. Felicia teasingly asks if this new addition to the family was a giraffe...or a mouse? No, it was a cute baby named Felicia who was as small as her teddy bear, Rosa.
Since Felicia’s Mama Nessa was born in New York and her Mama Linda was born in Puerto Rico, finding baby Felicia in another country made sense. Felicia also learns from her story that her name is a Spanish word that means “happy.”
Felicia’s Favorite Story is a good bedtime story for kids ages four and up. First graders might be able to read it themselves. Everyone wants to know the story of how they came to be in their family, especially kids who are adopted. Felicia is lucky enough to have two moms who flew to another country to find her and make her a part of their family.
