Activity: Balloon Explosion

by Cari Tan

Have you ever wondered how many balloons you can hold in your arms? Have you ever thought about how hilarious your family and friends would look trying to hold as many balloons as possible? Here’s your chance. This is a fun competition that you can have with family and friends.

First, blow up a bunch of balloons—probably about 20 to 30, but you can decide how many you want to do.

Second, make sure that you have a watch that counts seconds—you’re going to give everyone a minute to try to pick up as many balloons as possible.

Third, you should get a camera, because you’re definitely going to want photos of this to laugh at for years to come.

Now that you have all of your materials, you are ready to begin. Have everyone gather around and take turns with one person in the middle of the group with all of the balloons. When they are ready, start the clock and let them have a minute to try to pick up as many balloons as they possibly can. During this time cheer them on and laugh a lot—and don’t forget to take those pictures. When the minute is up, count how many balloons they have gotten off the ground.

The winner is the one who most successfully gets the most balloons up. You can decide to take off points for popped balloons if you want to. If you had a ton of fun with that, people can get into teams and see how many they can pick up with two, three, or four people all together (you might need to blow up some more balloons for this part).

That’s all there is to it. Now get ready to have some fun!
