Matthew Shepard Foundation: started by his parents to honor his memory, the foundation seeks to “Replace Hate with Understanding, Compassion & Acceptance” through its varied educational, outreach, and advocacy programs and by continuing to tell Matthew’s story

PFLAG: Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays: founded in 1972 by one parent, this national nonprofit organization now has over 200,000 members and supporters and over 500 affiliates in the United States and other countries.
