My favorite food is…

Ice cream. My favorite flavor is flavor. I had ice cream for breakfast. It’s Backwards Day! You do everything backwards. So you start with dessert, then after dessert you go to dinner, then lunch and then breakfast. It’s going to be at nighttime.

I’m learning…

School is like learning in a big learning place where you do stuff and your teacher tells you stuff. I like science. I like experiments. We did volcanoes once. We didn’t build a volcano, but we made stuff erupt like volcanoes. When I go back to school, I’ll just keep making volcanoes.

I just finished first grade. No! Kindergarten. Next year I’ll go to first grade. I think first grade will be easier than kindergarten. Kindergarten is hard.

I like to play tetherball. I’m good at it. At school, there’s a little field that has all kinds of things for sports and it has a tetherball area. In sports class, my friends Samuel, Leonardo and Pablo were playing against me and I won over all of them. I was holding the ball where they couldn’t get it and BOOM! (shows off a hard punch at the ball). I spinned it around and beat them. I like basketball and I will start playing that soon. I want to be like Kobe Bryant on the Lakers.

At home…

Our mom, Rose – we can call her Rose or Mom – she just gave us three screenbucks and we can either give her two of ours or three of ours or one of ours and — we only have three — and when you give it to her, you can play on the iPad or watch TV or play on the phone. You get 15 minutes for each screenbuck. You only get three, and once you use all of them you don’t get any more. I don’t like screenbucks. I’d just prefer to iPad, iPad, iPad, all the time. The iPad has games. Screenbucks are for the games too, because we don’t want to have screens too much.

My family…

My brothers were born in May. They just turned four. Atticus and Aveyron, but I call Aveyron Ronnie. I call Atticus Coy. I like being a big brother. My mom likes red because her name is Rose. My other mom is Carmen. She likes orange. It’s her favorite color. Those are my two actual moms, and there’s my stepmom. Her name’s Wendy and she lives here, too.

I like this house better than my old house, but I still live in my old house because Carmen and Rose are divorced, so Carmen lives in the old house and this is the new house, which we still live in, too. I like living in two houses. Wendy has two kids, Shiloh and Nate. I’m six, Ronnie and Coy are four, Nate is still five and Shiloh is definitely older than us. She’s eight. She’s my only sister. I like living with all of them.

Alastair will be a first-grader next year at the same charter elementary school where he attended kindergarten. He loves riding his bike, playing baseball and tennis, and he wants to be a professional hockey player when he grows up. Alastair splits his time between his mom, Carmen, and his mom, Rose and step-mom, Wendy. He has two brothers, one step-brother and a step-sister. He loves his big family, mostly because with three brothers, he always has built-in playdates. He says his favorite movie is Inside Out, even though he hasn’t seen it yet, because when he does see it he knows it’s going to be his favorite.
