This month’s problem comes from Brianna in Minnesota.

I’m starting middle school this year. I’ll still have some of my same friends (who know my parents) but there will be lots of new ones too. I’ve always been really relaxed about my family, but now I’m a little nervous going to a new school that someone will say something casual like, “Ask your dads if you can come to the party,” and then all these new kids will be obsessed with (or mean about) me having dads.

Should I ask my friends not to say anything about my parents?

What is your first name, state, and email address? (We'll only post your first name and state with your message, and we won't share your email address with others.)

Here are some thoughts from Rainbow Rumpus friends.

Josh from Wisconsin says
I wouldn’t worry about it. You’ll get to know people really fast, and you’ll have your old friends who will stick up for you if anyone gets weird—right? As long as you and your friends stay cool it’s the other kid who will look the fool.

Aiden from Minnesota says
I don’t know. It sounds like your elementary school was really friendly. Is it that way all around where you live, or just your own neighborhood? You might want to see what things are like, and then see what you want to tell your friends.
